  1. 8. Teacher Education programs must be developed as a full-fledged professional one.
    In order to develop teacher education as a full-fledged professional preparation program, a number of actions have to be taken.
    The duration of the program must be extended appropriately. ( Three Semesters program)
    Visioning Professional Development as a continuous process
    In-depth treatment of the knowledge base of teacher education must become a pre-requisite for making the program more professional.
    Internship component must be treated intensively for full semester duration.
    Creation new comprehensive integrated programs and courses must be undertaken.
    Four and a half years integrated B.Ed. Program must be developed. (Bachelor of Secondary Education Program. (B.Se.Ed.) and Four Year Bachelor of Elementary Education Program. (B.El.Ed)).
    Introduce a new stream for Preparing Higher Secondary Teachers.(Master of teaching in Higher Secondary)
    Possibilities for preparing professionals for a new set of professions in human resource development will also must be sought.
    Expertise of resourceful teachers in the general education system must be tapped appropriately.
    The strengths of the existing B.Ed. curriculum such as Problem Based approach; Videotaping of teaching practice, School experience program, reflective practices etc. must be continued.
